The Victoria Tower, on Huddersfield's Castle Hill, dates from 1899 and stands almost 997 feet high - so stand on top and you might well reach the thousand. Walk up the steep paths to the summit of the hill, then take the steps up to the top of the tower for spectacular views - it's open from noon until 4.30pm.
